Prayer

The prayer and desire of Lighthouse Baptist Church is to see people come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. When Paul wrote Romans ten verse one, "Brethern, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved", Paul had a burden for his people. As Paul had a heart for his people, Israel, so we have a heart for our families, our neighbors, our country, and all the world. As we try to fulfill the Great Commission our prayer is to see lives changed by accepting Christ. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Many today do not understand salvation and what it means to be saved. Saved from what? Saved from the penalty of sin. Living a good life isn't enough to go to Heaven. Many will say, "I never hurt anyone, I have kept the Ten Commandments." The Bible says in Revelation 21:8 "...that liars, shall have part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

Have you ever told a lie, even a small one? Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." We don't like to think about it but we all fall short and there is a penalty for sin. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death." This is that second death, eternal separation from God in Hell. "...it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).

This sounds pretty grim because the only way to pay for sin is death, but there is good news."But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8) Christ paid the price if we will accept Him as Saviour. He became our substitute.

Acts 17:30 says, "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent." This repentance is seeing sin as God sees it, realizing that there is nothing we can do to earn salvation, in our own we will never be good enough and only by accepting Christ and His finished work at Calvary can we be saved. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, "For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him."

Would you be like the Philippian jailer in Acts 16:30 and say, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Salvation is simple, it is seeing yourself a sinner in need of the Saviour, realizing He did pay for your sins and by trusting Him you can be saved. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13).

Whosoever includes you. The publican in Luke 18:13 said, "God be merciful to me a sinner." If you realize you are a sinner in need of the Saviour just pray and ask God to forgive you of your sins and trust Christ as your Saviour today.
